Greg & Jean Hines first visited La Campa, Honduras, in 2009 when they took their first short-term mission trip to Honduras as team leaders from First Baptist Church Atlanta. They had been on three mission trips to two different countries prior to 2009, but every country is different, so they didn’t know exactly what to expect. By the end of that first trip, they knew they wanted to return, but had no idea at that time that they would eventually live there permanently; that was until 2012 when things began to become more clear.

They were there with another mission team, and they began to sense during that trip that big changes were coming in their lives. Once they shared with each other what they had experienced, they began to believe that they were going to be able to spend more time in Honduras. But even then they weren’t absolutely sure of what exactly that meant. After this, there were more trips, and the more they explored Honduras and connected with the Honduran people, the more they discovered they really wanted to live here.
In 2013, they purchased a small piece of land in La Campa and began building their home. Moving day finally came in May of 2015. They traveled to Honduras with two suitcases and a backpack each. The team they flew down with checked six trunks of personal belongings for them. With those few possessions, an old pickup truck and a house not quite completed, they began the adventure in Honduras.

They learned a lot during their first few years there and through many different circumstances realized that in 2018 it was time to establish a nonprofit organization that they named FHD Missions, a 501c3 nonprofit ministry.
Through this organization they are able to engage more significantly with the healthcare system in Honduras, operate a ministry for people with physical disabilities called La Casa De Rubén, offer educational opportunities to outstanding high school graduates, and assist with community development projects to impact families in western Honduras.
