Prayer Requests

The need is great for teaching and proclaiming the true gospel all across the western mountains of Honduras. This need is so much greater than any two people can accomplish so please join us in praying Luke 10:2 which reads, “And He was saying to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.;” We believe this is a prayer the Lord will answer so we are trusting Him to provide the right person or people to come serve Him here with us.

Please pray for Jean and me, and the leadership of this ministry, in both the U.S. and Honduras, for wisdom as we think and plan strategically about how to go about fulfilling God’s plans and purposes that He has for us and the people He loves and created who live in this part of Honduras where we serve.

Please pray for the final mission team for this year arriving on September 7th. This team will be ministering to children in the local schools, ministering to the people being cared for at The Ruben House, and hosting the first sports camp that our ministry has ever done.

Please pray for us as we work to finish the construction of a home for a family in need in La Campa.

We have one crate remaining that has not yet been shipped to us from the U.S. Please continue to pray for favor as we work out details with the shipper and Honduras customs so that these items will arrive safely and soon without exaggerated cost. This is an ongoing prayer request.

Please continue to pray for Pedro, one of the long-term residents of The Ruben House. The last surgery to replace the stents in his kidney went well, however, there were significant post-surgery complications afterwards that are still being treated. Despite the stents Pedro’s kidneys are not functioning well overall and he has lots of complications due to his catheterization.

Please continue to pray for Oscar, a long-term resident of The Ruben House who had his leg amputated in May. He is doing well emotionally and spiritually, and working very hard to prepare for a prosthetic limb.

Please continue to pray for chronic health situations with some of our family members stateside. Please ask the Lord to give us wisdom to know what we can do and when we can do it.

Please pray for Jean and me to stay healthy so that we can continue to serve effectively.

Please pray for Jean and me as we begin to make preparations for our year end trip to the states and as we start making ministry plans for 2027.

Please pray for the continued spiritual growth and development of everyone at The Ruben House.

Please pray for the health and well-being of the patients (Ruben, Rosalina, Elias, Pedro & Oscar) and the staff (Marcos, Mauricio, Prudencia, Sandra, Mirza and Ana) at The Ruben House.

Please pray for a man named Luis who came to The Ruben House for his first two week stay in August. He suffered a stroke some time ago.

Please pray for a young boy named Oscar. We have been assisting him with exams to try to figure out why he can’t walk, although not being paralyzed, from a fall that he suffered a few years back.

Please pray for Vicente. Vicente had his leg amputated in March of this year. We were able to deliver a wheelchair to him and begin making plans to help him prepare for a prosthetic leg.

Please pray for the Lord to send us a new part-time nurse assistant/therapy technician. This is an ongoing prayer request as it is proving very difficult to fill this position.

Please pray for Sulmy, our newest scholarship student, who has started classes at a university in Santa Rosa where she is pursuing her dream to becoming a civil engineer.

Please pray for us as we continue to help family members who can no longer live independently and need varying levels of health care and assistance.

Please pray for the Lord to send rain to the nation of Honduras as we are in a severe drought. The capital city is having to ration water with some parts of the city only receiving water for a few hours per day once every 9 days. There are tight water restrictions in most of the rest of the country and varying amounts of rationing. In our area the rivers are nearly completely dry and most everyone has lost or are losing their corn and bean crops so it is very possible that there will be a much greater hunger problem than usual in Honduras later this year and lasting into 2027.

Praises

We are praising the Lord for His ongoing goodness and faithfulness to us and the ministry He has entrusted to us. Things are rarely easy but God is always with us, providing and making the way.

We are praising the Lord for an excellent summer of ministry with the mission teams who came to serve with us. There were 30 salvations and many who rededicated their lives to the Lord, and some who have returned to the church after a time away.

We are praising the Lord for how strong Oscar’s faith has proven through an extremely difficult trial (see above), and how hard he is working at his therapy and exercise to get ready for a prosthetic leg.

We are praising the Lord that we have wheelchairs, walkers, etc. that we can give away to help people with physical disabilities. We are grateful for those who donate and those who help secure these donations so that we can be a blessing to others.

We praise the Lord for each and everyone who prays for this ministry and supports this ministry by giving of their time and financial resources, and in other ways. We can’t do it without you.

Prayer Requests & Praises-February 2025

Please pray for Jean and me, and the leadership of this ministry, in both the U.S. and Honduras, for wisdom as we think and plan strategically about how to go about fulfilling God’s plans and purposes that He has for us and the people He loves and created who live in this part of Honduras where we serve.

Please pray for the Lord to provide all of the resources that will be needed for 2025. Thank you for your prayers in regards to our ministry fundraising. We are starting off the year on solid ground financially speaking. However, there is not an abundance of funds available at this time for us to take on new patients at LCDR. We know the need is out there and we would like to serve as many of the physically disabled in our area as possible so please pray for the Lord to provide additional resources for us to bless others through this ministry.

After much prayer and consultation, we decided to get the transmission in the Hyundai mobility van rebuilt. The work was completed so we finally have a praise report regarding our transportation problems-the Hyundai van has been back on the road for a few weeks now and is running very well. Please continue to pray that the Hyundai will once again be a good and reliable vehicle for us.

While it is a blessing for us to have this vehicle back on the road, please pray for us as we consider our transportation needs on a longer-term basis.

We have several items waiting to be shipped to Honduras from the U.S. Please pray for favor as we work out details with the shipper and Honduras customs so that these items will arrive safely and soon without exaggerated cost.

Please pray for the two surgeries (for Nohemi and Seidy) to happen soon. This has been such a long struggle for them and us with little more to show for it than disappointment thus far. The latest update: the surgical team who came in November had some problems of their own so they were unable to provide the surgery for Nohemi. Since we have been unable to find resources in Honduras for such a long time, we are looking at options outside of the country for both Nohemi and Seidy.

Please pray for full recoveries for Mario, Dagoberto and Gerson. All three suffered serious arm injuries in accidents. All of them have been coming to LCDR for therapy and are making progress.

Please continue to pray for chronic health situations with some of our family members stateside. Please ask the Lord to give us wisdom to know what we can do and when we can do it.

Please pray for the continued spiritual growth and development of everyone at La Casa De Rubén. We recently had a great time together looking at what the Bible teaches about fasting. Soon we will be studying together what the Bible says about tithing. These are two topics that were requested to be studied by everyone at La Casa De Rubén. We are also looking at some other materials that we can study together on a weekly basis so that we can all continue to grow as disciples, followers of Christ.

Please pray for the health and well-being of both the patients and the staff at LCDR.

Please continue to pray for all of the students we have in our scholarship program. A praise is that we have 3 more students who will be graduating this year. Another praise is that we have funding to bring two new students into the program. Please pray for us as we identify and interview candidates, and for the Lord to reveal to us the exact students He would like for us to enroll in the program.

Finding Rubén

The Mescalio Story

It was a damp, drizzly and cold day in January 2016 when we, Greg and Jean, first visited this small village located slightly more than an hour away from both La Campa and Gracias. A small team from Atlanta, GA had come to spend a week with us to teach on the importance of prayer. The teaching was put into action by visiting families in Mescalio to actually pray with and for them.

Arrangements had been made for us to go with Juan, one of the church leaders from neighboring Mataras, who had been doing house visits in Mescalio. The homes are fairly spread out across the mountains and it is difficult terrain. That particular morning it was also a little muddy as we went on foot in the streets and narrow trails, climbing across fences and walking through pastures to visit several homes. As noon approached we were ready to call it a day but Juan had another idea and he wouldn’t take no for an answer. He wanted to visit one more family and the looming storm on the horizon was not bothering him so off we went.

At this last house lived a family who had recently moved to Mescalio and were operating a pulperia, or small convenience store, out of their house. This is one of the many ways they work hard to make ends meet in an isolated village with few opportunities. As we were all talking, the mom, Gloria Marina, shared with us how difficult it had been for them since their move. There were many reasons for this including that there was no evangelical church for them to attend. We prayed with Gloria Marina and her family, we committed to visiting again, and left thinking our visit had been very encouraging to them.

In March 2017 a team of builders and nurses from several churches near Louisville, KY came to build the first evangelical church and conduct a medical clinic in Mescalio. It was then that we met Rubén, one of Gloria Marina’s neighbors. Rubén had been shot in October 2016 and was paralyzed from the chest down. When we met him his spirits were low and his overall health was poor. One of our interpreters shared the gospel with Rubén and he accepted Christ as his Savior. Even though Rubén was still physically paralyzed, he was spiritually healed.

In early 2018 Rubén was hospitalized with a high fever due to various infections. His physical condition was grave but his spirit was not. Despite his struggles he always had a beautiful smile and was encouraging to us. We learned from the hospital staff that while Rubén was there he told some of the other patients, if you will come here I will pray with you. He could not visit others bedside but he cared enough to want to pray for them. How awesome is that! Rubén is proof that God can and does use any of us when we are willing to serve Him.

Over time as we visited Rubén we got to know his family. Marlen, Rubén’s now 12 year old sister, had completed 6th grade and was helping care for Rubén. As she would run from Rubén’s bed to get water, a towel, or whatever else was needed we would talk with her. During one of these talks we learned that she wanted to become a nurse so that she could better help her brother and others like him. However, this was an impossible dream for her because there are no educational opportunities beyond 6th grade in Mescalio.

But when Marlen and her brother moved into La Casa de Rubén in April 2019 everything changed. He is now getting the care and physical therapy he needs while she is attending 7th grade in pursuit of her dream to become a nurse. Will she achieve her dream? Through her hard work, favor from God, and our new scholarship program we think she will. But above all we want her to have the opportunity to learn about God and Jesus and grow into the person that He designed her to be.

There is much work to be done in Mescalio and La Casa de Rubén. Will you ask God to show you how He wants you to join in His work in Mescalio? Will you pray for the love and grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to continue to be shared and received in this community? Will you pray for Rubén, Marlen, and everyone else who comes to stay at La Casa de Rubén? There are many ways to support the work in both of these places. Will you prayerfully consider how God may be calling you to be a part of this work He is doing?
